The Essentia Health Cancer Center, formerly SMDC Cancer Center, has been a national leader in clinical trials research for more than 25 years.
Our research is conducted using nationally recognized clinical trials, which offer cancer patients and high-risk populations opportunities to participate in research on cancer treatment and prevention. We have access to these trials through the Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP). Created in 1983 by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the CCOP network allows patients and physicians to participate in state-of-the-art clinical trials and remain in their local communities.
The best way to learn more about one of our clinical trials is to get a referral from your doctor or oncologist. You may also refer yourself or your child to our Cancer Clinical Trials Department by calling 218-786-3308, or toll-free at 888-203-7267. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Our research staff and oncologists collaborate to determine whether patients will benefit by participating in a clinical trial. Patients who meet the eligibility guidelines are invited to begin the clinical trial after completing a formal consent process with our research team.
